Fall Concert 2017
Oakland Youth Orchestras Fall Concert to feature award-winning, 11 year-old, violinist Gabriela da Silva as well as works from contemporary and classic composers.
ROCHESTER, MI – October 23, 2017 — The four orchestras that comprise Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO) will feature award-winning, 11 year-old, violinist Gabriela da Silva at the November 2, 2017 Fall Concert.
Gabriela da Silva, Rochester Hills, OYO’s 2017 First Place String Solo Competition Winner will be performing Polish Dance by Edmund Severn. Two years ago, Silva also received an honorable mention in the string solo competition.
Silva started playing the violin at the age of 6. She studied previously with Nathan Spix–an OYO alumni, and is currently under the tutelage of OYO’s Symphony conductor–Mr. Zeljko Milicevic.
Silva loves people, family and music. She has been educated in both English and Brazilian Portuguese. Along with her sisters, and father, she often entertains at nursing homes and community events. She enjoys tennis, dancing, lots of popcorn and has recently shown a growing interest in interior design.
OYO’s Symphony conductor and Silva’s current teacher, Mr. Zeljko Milicevic, has high praises for her, “Gabriella is an energy filled young person who possesses a beautiful dose of talent. Musicality comes to her naturally and she’s a joy to work with due to her being extremely disciplined and her thoughtful practice techniques.”
The Fall Concert will also feature a wide range of musical works from Richard Meyer, King Kong, and Gladiator to Franz Schubert’s Marche Militaire, Op. 51, No. 1; arr. by Dr. Leopold Damrosch and Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 as well as Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance Op. 46, No. 8.
Oakland Youth Orchestras Fall Concert is November 2, 2017. The concert will be held at the Oxford Fine Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Oxford Fine Arts Center is located at Oxford High School, 745 N. Oxford Road, Oxford, MI 48371.
Tickets will be available at the door: Adults–$10, children and students–$5, and ticket quartets–$30 (includes four tickets).
