Michael LI

ROCHESTER, MIOct. 28, 2019—Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO) fall concert will feature young soloist Michael Li, violin 2019 Solo Competition, String Orchestra 1st place winner. He will be performing “Introduction et Tarantelle” by Sarasate at the November 7, 2019 fall concert.

About the upcoming concert Li said, “I am pretty excited about the performance and looking forward to sharing my music. It’s a great honor for me to be given this opportunity to perform. This is one of my favorite pieces so far. I can’t wait for the audience to hear my interpretation of it.”

Li is in 6th grade at Bloomfield Hills Middle School. He started violin lessons with Mr. Li-Yuan Sun at age 5 and is currently studying with DSO violinist Jing Zhang. 

He joined OYO’s String Orchestra in 2018, during which he participated in the Chamber Ensemble and several community outreach recitals. Li is now playing for OYO’s Philharmonia Orchestra this season. Musically, his favorite violin piece is Paganini’s Concerto No. 1.

In his free time, Li enjoys playing soccer and running cross country.

In addition to Li’s solo, works from modern composers and great masters will be performed.  Musical selections include: Dvorak, Symphony No. 4, Gliere, Russian Sailors Dance, Bernstein, America from West Side Story, and A Million Dreams, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. 

Oakland Youth Orchestras Fall Concert is November 7, 2019 at 6:30pm.  The concert will be held at the Oxford Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m.  Oxford Performing Arts Center is located at Oxford High School, 745 N. Oxford Road, Oxford, MI 48371.

Tickets will be available at the door:  Adults–$10, children and students–$5, and ticket quartets–$30 (includes four tickets).
