Oakland Youth Orchestras, (OYO), Winter Concert will feature two award-winning soloists:  2019 1st place Philharmonia Orchestra Concerto Competition winner- Justin Lo and  2019 1st place Theresa Schuster Award Symphony Concerto Competition winner Selina Langfeldt.

Justin Lo, cellist

Lo, a junior at Detroit Country Day, found his love for the cello at the age of 9. He is the principal cellist in his high school orchestra and plays in the string quartet as well.

Last year, Lo was nominated as a State Outstanding Soloist and moved on to compete in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Concerto. He will be performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto at the concert.

In his spare time, Lo loves to play with his dog, listen to a variety of music, and play basketball.

Selina Langfeldt, oboist

Langfeldt, a senior at Oxford High School, started playing the oboe at the age of 11. She began private lessons with Steve Landino, and has studied with Chris Wheeler for the past four years.

Langfeldt, has participated in the MSBOA Michigan Youth Arts Festival, was a member of the Blue Lake International Symphony Orchestras 2018-2019, and was also selected as the principal oboist in the 2020 MSBOA All-State High School Orchestra. Langfeldt will be performing the Concerto for Oboe and String Orchestra by Vaughan Williams.

Langfedlt’s mother, Claudia, speaks to the quality of OYO and the rewards for her daughter, “For the past 8 years, I’ve been continuously impressed by the quality of OYO concerts and the talent that the students display. I’m very grateful that Selina has been given the opportunity to perform as a soloist and look forward to seeing her hard work and dedication pay off on stage.”

Works from modern composers and great masters will also be performed by the OYO Orchestras.  Musical selections include: Swan Lake – Tchaikovsky arr. Michael Hopkins, Haydn, Symphony #1, Presto, arr. McCashin, Overture to Nabucco, Verdi and Sleeping Beauty Suite by Tchaikovsky. 

Oakland Youth Orchestras Winter Concert is February, 6th, 2020 at 6:30pm.  The concert will be held at the Oxford Performing Arts Center located at 745 N. Oxford Road, Oxford, MI, 48371.

Tickets will be available at the door:  Adults–$10, children and students–$5, and ticket quartets–$30 (includes four tickets).
