Oakland Youth Orchestras To Feature Works From Renowned Composers At The May 3, 2018 Spring Concert
ROCHESTER, MI – April 23, 2018—The four orchestras that comprise Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO) will perform works from renowned composers at the May 3, 2018 Spring Concert.
Musical selections include: El Salon Mexico, Hoedown and Saturday Night Waltz from Rodeo by Aaron Copland, Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi, Egyptian March and Tritsch-Tratsch Polka by Johann Strauss Jr., American Landscape by Soon Hee Newbold and Largo from Symphony No. 9 by Antonin Dvořák; arr. Sandra Dackow.
“The May Concert is always an extraordinary experience. Even after 19 years with OYO, I marvel at the impressive growth evident from each of the orchestra performances and this year won’t disappoint! This is also our opportunity to recognize our student scholarship, solo and concerto competition winners and to celebrate our 43 seniors, for their participation, whether for one year or eleven!” Joanne Walle, OYO Executive Director.
The concert will be held at the Oxford Fine Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Oxford Fine Arts Center is located at Oxford High School, 745 N. Oxford Road, Oxford, MI 48371.
Tickets will be available at the door: Adults–$10, children and students–$5, and ticket quartets–$30 (includes four tickets).
Audition signup for the 2018-2019 season is going on now at www.oyomi.org and ex-tends through May 20, 2018 Merit and financial-need scholarships are available.
String, woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists, ages 7-18, who are interested in advancing their musical skills, are invited to audition for membership.
All returning and prospective members audition for placement into one of OYO’s four orchestras. Auditions assist conductors in placing each student at the appropriate skill level to provide a challenging musical experience within a supportive environment.
