Play a Part in Our Future!
A Note from Nicole Shogren, Executive Director
Dear OYO Community,
In 1975, Oakland Youth Symphony was established with a vision to offer an opportunity for students to enrich their musical education. Fifty years later, under the name Oakland Youth Orchestras, it boasts 4 orchestras, creating experiences for nearly 350 elementary through high school students, attracting students who want to be challenged musically, and who seek to find a broader community of like-minded fellow musicians.
The powerful growth of our organization has been fueled by the generosity of our donors. Tuition only covers about 60% of our operating budget. We sincerely appreciate all of you for your support, making OYO accessible to all families who wish to participate, and enabling us to sustain the high level of musicianship of our conductors and the excellence of our staff. It is generous donations from the OYO community that pays for our facility rentals, scholarships, competitions, and sectional coaches. As we celebrate our 50th year, we invite you to be instrumental in securing the future of OYO, by supporting the programs that enrich your students.
Since its first vision, OYO has dedicated itself to enriching and inspiring young people, through the power of music, to become outstanding musicians, individuals, and leaders. You have all played a role in the history of this organization, whether for a single season or for decades, and we encourage you to participate in the future of OYO. Now it’s time to celebrate and usher in our next 50 years with the celebrations of the 2024-2025 season.
Gratefully,
Nicole Shogren
